Aldermaston's Big Blockade

Shut down: Main Gate, AWE Aldermaston, 15 February 2010

The Big Blockade at AWE Aldermaston organised yesterday by Trident Ploughshares seemed to have something for everyone.  The blockaders were pleased at successfully closing down access to the factory for the morning and organising an exciting and very well attended event (over 800 people came along).  AWE were relieved that they managed to get their staff into work – large numbers came in at around 6 am before the blockade began.  The police managed to oversee the demonstration in a low-key way that kept everything cool, and the traffic chaos wasn't as nightmarish as local residents had feared.

We've put together a fantastic video collage of the blockade at Aldermaston on our Facebook page.  You can watch short soundbite videos giving viewpoints from various different people who were there: blockaders, police, local residents, journalists, musicians, and many more.  Make sure you watch the videos from Nobel Peace Prize winner Mairead Maguire, Jill Evans MEP, and CND Chair Kate Hudson – and while you're there, why not sign up to become one of our fans!
