Nuclear Submarines
Mr. Ancram: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many submerged
collisions involving British nuclear submarines there have been since
2000. [259984]
Mr. Hutton: Since 2000 the following incidents involving submerged royal
navy submarines have taken place: HMS Superb in May 2008, HMS Tireless
in 2003, HMS Trafalgar in 2002 and HMS Triumph in November 2000. HMS
Tireless hit an iceberg while on Arctic patrol. The remainder were all
grounding incidents. All the vessels, apart from HMS Superb, which was
decommissioned in October 2008, were repaired and returned to service.
