Contracts include:
AWE Nuclear Technologies currently
support AWE Aldermaston via a Term Contract for Safety
Consultancy Services to support the development of safety
cases for various projects including:
- Enriched Uranium Facility project
- Revision of the 250 mGy criticality dose contour for a
major AWE production facility
- Long term secondments into Aldermaston to support the
criticality safety assessment of all operations involving
the movement, storage or processing of fissile materials
- Provision of criticality safety training
- Provision of safety advice
- Provision of criticality and shielding assessments and
documentation
BRITISH NUCLEAR GROUP
Nuclear Technologies have been awarded the following
contracts with British Nuclear Group: -
- BNFL Springfields
o Nuclear
Technologies are currently providing a consultant on
secondment to provide criticality safety support to several
projects at BNFL Springfields.
- BNFL Sellafield
- Nuclear Technologies provide safety consultancy
personnel to assist in the COSR Criticality INSA.
- Work is presently in progress looking at the
Engineering Substantiation of the shielding provisions on
a BNFL owned PIE Facility and its associated flasks on the
UKAEA Windscale site.
- BNFL Capenhurst
- In the past, we have also provided criticality safety
support via seconded consultants to several projects at
BNFL Capenhurst.
UKAEA Nuclear Technologies
supports UKAEA in a broad raft of safety-related tasks. In
1998, the company was awarded a continuing Term Contract for
Scientific Consultancy Services from Dounreay, against which
numerous orders have been placed, including:
- UKAEA Dounreay
- Preparation and peer review of safety case
documentation and engineering substantiation documents for
various plants at Dounreay, including Criticality Incident
Detection and Alarm Systems, (CIDAS), 100 mSv Contour
Assessments and Shielding Assessments produced as part of
the modern standards safety case programme.
- Development of plant designs for the retrieval of
waste from the Dounreay shaft and silo
- Production of criticality safety assessments for
Dounreay operational plant
- An assessment of the dose to the critical groups from
Dounreay Stack Discharges.
- D1250/1251 Dispersion Modelling Study using PC Cream
software.
- Review of the D1203 Criticality HAZANS (subcontracted
by DGP)
- Peer Review of D1208 CIDAS Omission Case

UK NIREX LTD Nuclear Technologies
holds a Term Contract for Criticality and Waste Packaging
Safety Consultancy Services by UK Nirex Ltd., the body
responsible for the provision of a national geological
repository for the disposal of radioactive waste. Various
packages of work have been placed as a result.
GE HEALTHCARE Nuclear Technologies have
recently completed a project to determine the bulk biological
shielding and neutron activation for a cyclotron vault that is
used in the production of radioisotope sources for use in
Positron Emission Tomography (PET). This work has subsequently
been expanded for GE Healthcare (who now own Amersham) to look
at dose rates from a self-shielded cyclotron in a European
Member State.
