The Nuclear Information Service calls upon the next British Government to:
- end nuclear weapons production at AWE Aldermaston and Burghfield
- return 3 Trident submarines to port and disarm them (4th boat not currently in service)
- begin a programme to return all existing warheads to AWE for decommissioning
- improve the safety regime for road transport of warhead convoys from Scotland to AWE for decommissioning
- ensure safe storage of plutonium and highly enriched uranium from warheads at AWE
- lead the world in meeting our obligations to disarm nuclear weapons under the Non-Proliferation Treaty
- urgently commission further research on decommissioning, safe storage and verification techniques for global nuclear disarmament
